Siththara - Volume-1 Release-24 - 29th March 1976

Cover page of Siththara - the most successful of them all....

This is a one episode story -
FB: Rasika Asanga Costa I remember this one...he gets Tomorow's paper every evening from somebody at the station that has the racing news. So he bets on the winning horses and makes a lot of money. The final time he meets the guy on the platform and finds out that the stranger is actually 'Death'..and the newspaper says that the 'Race Pissa' is found dead in his house..Thanks for the memories..

Yuniko (or - as Balangoda Sarathmadhu calls it: Eunicore) is a true masterpiece among superhero stories.
He, with his friends fights the evil king's empire to save the innocent. The story is un-imaginably original and perfect artwork.

Salfa - This one is hilarious - but written in a serious tone. All characters are Chemicals. Copper (Cu)'s daughter is Salfar and Litmus Halogen tries for her and Cu blocks the reaction..

James Bond - SriLankanized  -  Looks like influenced / copied from a western comic story - but have never seen a similar story anywhere upto now.

A controversial one

Yahalu Yeheli - this is the facebook at the time and most of the people in the photos must be in their 60's or 70's today. Let us know if you are still out there ....!!

Sinhala comics from our time

Sinhala Comic Books - Chithra Katha Paththara - emerged a few years after the appearance of the Chithra Katha poth in the mid 70's. Chithra Katha Poth - Comic books - were in landscape format with a coloured cover and black and white pages and had one story per book . Usually detective or Historical stories.

Chithra Katha Paththara were released in the portrait format and carried about 8 stories that ran one page every week, a coloured centerfold with a comic strip , one or two single episode stories and 2 pages of '70's facebook'.

This format quickly became a part of Sri Lankan popular culture and many parents banned these for their kids.

The original stories, amazing artwork, and the presentation took the masses by storm and many people used to count days till the next week to see the new release.
